STORYLINE & GOAL:

At the end of the Last Great War, you were designed as the ultimate fighting machine. But then the bombs dropped... Now your high-tech weaponry and abilities may spell your doom. Every day you find fuel more and more scarce and one day soon you know you will run out. But then you hear something that give you hope...

According to rumors, there is a former secret government base hidden deep in the wastes, beyond the hills and inside that base there is a source of unlimited power: a fusion reactor core. If you can acquire that, you can live forever. But in your present form, your advanced parts are too fuel-hungry to make it past the mountains. So you must DOWNGRADE to shed weight and increase your fuel's range

Travel the wastes, fighting bandit, soldiers, and rogue robots in order to secure older, more lightweight parts and increase fuel efficiency. Compare carefully, as these older parts are less effective and carry less armor, so make sacrifices only where needed.

When you feel you are prepared, travel East or South beyond the hills and scour the farlands for the mysterious base. With luck, you may yet discover the fusion core and LIVE FOREVER

BACKGROUND & FUTURE PLANS:

This is my first ever released game and it was created for the PICO-8 "CR8 Autumn Jam" with the theme "Robot". I decided to create a survival game with a twist: winning depending upon DOWNGRADING instead of upgrading your equipment. I was able to get almost all of the core systems I wanted, but I couldn't fit a SAVE/LOAD system or the final boss inside the PICO-8 token limit without significant rewrites. If the game is well received, I will add these and other features in in the future.

Thank you for playing my first ever game and I hope you enjoy. I welcome any and all feedback below!

It's fun. It would be nice to be able to move the cursor while moving.

Thanks for the kind words, Sloth. I'd like to add that ability, but I'm not really sure how to do it with the limited numbers of buttons on the PICO-8 controller

Hey Fodder, If you’re in the Pico8 Discord, I would be happy to help you on this if you like. It’s a cool game so far, and I think getting that mechanic working wouldn’t be too hard. Have you considered just shooting in the direction the character is ‘facing’?
